We strive to remain relative and up to date with this constantly progressive modern world. Adding what is necessary to it, ultimately in order to preserve its beauty.” – Matthew Ignatowicz Human Resource Manager and Marketer at SPS.

The strength of the structural pergola system makes it perfect for supporting a wide variety of accessories such as TVs, fans, lights, and speakers. The hollow design of our beams allows all wiring, and fasteners to be secured internally. Safe from weatherings or any visual unpleasantries.

The Structural Pergola Systems design team has been using structural fiberglass on their shade designs for 20 years. The fiberglass beams offer an elegant and unique aesthetic while having the structural qualities that make it the best option for your pergola system.

The Pergola beams can be built using either 4 x 6 or 4 x 8 fiberglass rafters that are finished with a scrolled or squared end. The SPS pergola system has the strength to support additional materials such as lattice, glass panels, canvas, and our fiberglass shutter walls. SPS has approved engineering/architectural plans for commercial purposes.

Structural Fiberglass Reinforced Parts (FRP) made by Shakespeare provides the best option for materials made for outdoor structural building product applications. If you combined the advantages of wood, PVC (vinyl), and aluminum into one product, you would have structural FRP. Our reinforced structural fiberglass beams have the warm natural look of milled painted wood without the disadvantage of rot or the continuous maintenance of wood.

Our structural FRP beams do not require maintenance like PVC (vinyl). Meanwhile having more strength than PVC (approximately 6X the stiffness) less expansion and contraction with extreme temperatures (1/6 the expansion/contraction).

Our FRP beams are structural in strength and are not prone to dents and diminishing effects compared to materials such as aluminum. They accept standard/custom coatings and will stand the test of time.

SPS offers several different profile shapes:

  • 4 x 6 and 4 x 8 for beams
  • 1 x 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 slats
  • 4 x 4 and 5 x 5 square posts
  • Round straight or tapered columns
  • Fiberglass Shutter walls for privacy in both operational and stationary applications

Our system features hollow, thick-walled construction which allows polycarbonate panels, awnings or lattice to easily attach, as well as hiding electric lines, to create the perfect outdoor living space.

The structural pergola system allows for designs ranging from simple and tradition to highly elaborate. The ease of assembly makes installation of any design quick and simple.

The fiberglass will not rust, chip, fade, crack, warp, and has minimal deflection over extremely large spans. You will be able to enjoy the same look from the time the pergola is installed for years to come.

For custom pergolas, all parts are made uniquely for the design. Resulting in breathtaking one-of-a-kind pergolas.

The coating that is applied to Structural FRP Pergola Beams passes the stringent American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) Specification 623-07 Requirements for Organic Coatings on Fiber Reinforced Thermoset Profiles. This is the same test that is used by the major window manufacturers certify the performance of their products. To qualify for this level of performance the coating must exceed testing for adhesion, chemical resistance, and fade resistance.
